Recently, I read The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. It made me think about the life that we have and the dreams that we see. I have compiled some of the phrases from the book that I found worth sharing.
- Do not let people change you. “When someone sees the same people every day, they wind up becoming a part of that person’s life. And then they want the person to change. If someone isn’t what others want them to be, the others become angry. Everyone seems to have a clear idea of how other people should lead their lives, but none about his or her own.”
- Believe in your dreams. “And when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.”
- It’s never too late to follow your passion. “He never realized that people are capable, at any time in their lives, of doing what they dream of.”
- Love is unconditional. “One is loved because one is loved. No reason is needed for loving.”
- You should not try to know what’s coming. “If good things are coming, they will be a pleasant surprise. If bad things are, and you know in advance, you will suffer greatly before they even occur.”
- Live life like there is no tomorrow. “The secret is here in the present. If you pay attention to the present, you can improve upon it. And, if you improve on the present, what comes later will also be better. Forget about the future. Each day, in itself, brings with it an eternity.”
- Think before you speak. “It’s not what enters men’s mouth that is evil. It’s what comes out of their mouths that is.”
- True love will make you strong. “You must understand that love never keeps a man from pursuing his Personal Legend. If he abandons that pursuit, it’s because it wasn’t true love… the love that speaks the Language of the World.” Personal Legend refers to destiny.
- Do not let your past affect you. “Don’t think about what you’ve left behind.”
- Keep trying until the end. “One dies of thirst just when the palm trees have appeared on the horizon.” In reference to an infinite dry desert.
- Be the change you want to see in the world. “When we strive to become better than we are, everything around us becomes better, too.”
- Love makes you a better person. “Because when we love, we always strive to become better than we are.”
- People will not always believe you. “When you possess great treasures within you and try to tell others of them, seldom are you believed.”
- Overcome your fear. “There is only one thing that makes a dream impossible to achieve: the fear of failure.”
