Almost everyone around us suffer from procrastination in their lives. Keeping today’s work for tomorrow or scrolling the feed of social media endlessly not only delay our timelines but also make us a part of endless cycle. We are always working but still our tasks are incomplete.
We look for ways to help us overcome this procrastination. Here are some of the things that I did to manage my time well.
- I started planning my day the night before. I always have an excel file opened on my desktop with all the tasks mentioned for the day or a week ahead. Trust me, it’s super helpful. It gives a direction to your day!
- I started believing in myself. Usually, we procrastinate when we feel that is something is beyond our limits and refrain ourselves from giving it a try by making random excuses. Once you will start having faith in yourself, you will feel the urge to complete things as soon as possible.
- Yoga and evening walks have helped me a lot in maintaining concentration and staying focused. Exercise can make you feel good about yourself and keeps you stress-free which in turn helps you in overcoming procrastination.
- External motivation. During summers, my friend & I made a tracker of our daily and weekly goals and would keep updating it. This way we had a spirit of competition between ourselves. From our jobs to priorities, everything was different, still, we had some sort of external motivation with us to mark everything as completed by the end of the day.
It’s not that I do not procrastinate at all but I try my best to not let it affect my timelines and goals. Usually, what I have seen is that keeping realistic small tasks in your daily schedule helps you achieve more than what you could do by keeping tiring and big tasks on the list. Also, you can reward yourself with something after building a streak of certain days.
At last, I would just add that it’s okay if you do feel lazy on some days and feel like pushing your work for the next day! It’s okay to sleep all day or binge-watch a TV series on some weekends. It’s okay if you feel like giving up and run away for a vacation on certain days! What is not okay is to have these thoughts every day. 😀
