Have you ever wondered that why you are able to study at your best when you have an exam the next day or you give the best presentation of your life when your job is in jeopardy or you run the faster when a thief is running away with your bag?
No?
Let’s think about what was common in all the three scenarios mentioned above?
There was a driving force behind each activity that you had performed.
In my life, I have realized that most people are able to perform to their utmost when circumstances drive them and those who push themselves are the ones who really succeed.
For example, when I was working on writing my thesis, I would procrastinate daily and would leave the things to be done the next day. One day, my professor called me up and told me to submit the introductory part in the next three days. Damn, I thought I was screwed. But when I was studying, I noticed that I would have never been completed the work had the professor not given me a deadline.
So, the deadlines pushed me to perform!
Similarly, a few months back, I had participated in a 5km marathon. Usually, whenever I go for a run, I take very frequent breaks. But that day, I had a sense of a driving force to be among the top runners. And, I did complete in 33 minutes! I wondered why I am not able to do so on regular days! Why I feel tired and exhausted after just 5 minutes?
So, it was the winning thing that made me run more effectively!
This is why it is being said every time, ‘Do what you love.’ Because you can not be driven towards something that does not interest you! And, it is very important to find your interests even in the things that you don’t like. Suppose a job is paying you well and you really need the money at the moment, so you should do that work passionately even if you do not like it. The interest is that it is paying you well.
The moment you will start developing and looking for benefits (monetary or spiritual) in the things that you do, you will find your life a little sorted and exciting.
This also explains why only those people are able to taste success in their lives who are highly dedicated and passionate about their goals.
So the next time you are doing something, do not wait for deadlines to be given by your manager or mentor, give yourself one.
The next time when you are going for jogging/running, do not take breaks, think as if a dog is running behind you! You will notice that you will run faster 😀
The small change in attitude towards working can actually improve you and your life. Make that change to yourself. Now. 🙂
And remember, in life, only the driven and passionate ones give their best on ordinary days and this is what that makes them extraordinary!
